About
Co-presented with Marlborough Productions: Symoné: 'Nullspace Motel'
Blending live art, pole and contemporary dance with non-linear storytelling, 'Nullspace Motel' immerses audiences into the fractured dreams of a digital being named Ish. Audience members will take turns to play along with the performance via a live video game, unravelling the love story of Dusky and Hayden - fragments of Ish’s memories - as they navigate strange new environments, recover lost memories and play psychedelic mini-games that probe identity, memory, power and queer gaze.
'Nullspace Motel' reimagines virtual, game-driven concepts for the live, sensorial environment, as the game on screen bleeds into the physical space. Two dancers’ performances are impacted by the outcomes on screen, creating something different for every show. As lines blur between performer and participant, real and unreal, 'Nullspace Motel' asks what does it mean to exist and how much of ourselves remains unknown ?
'Nullspace Motel' is created by Symoné, in collaboration with Sammy Metcalfe and Reed Rushes. Produced by The Lasso Club. Commissioned UK Black Pride, Marlborough Productions and Theatre in the Mill for New Queers On The Block, Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts, Cambridge Junction, Collusion & Electric Medway, with support from Arts Council England, South East Dance and Live Art Development Agency.
Special thanks to Screen South, Shoreditch Town Hall and Blast Theory. Marlborough Productions and Theatre in the Mill for New Queers On The Block, Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts.
