About
Starving Dingoes - Léa Tirabasso
‘...a haunting and electrifying spectacle of dance’ Era Journal
Presented as part of South East Dance’s undisciplined festival, showcasing dance that pushes the boundaries of the artform, Starving Dingoes is a rite, a piece for five dancers portraying the urgency to live, furiously and passionately.
Created in a collaboration between choreographer Léa Tirabasso and cancer specialists Simone Niclou and Alex Gentry-Maharaj, Starving Dingoes explores the phenomenon of apoptosis, in which individual human or animal cells are programmed to die off for the benefit of the whole organism.
Wrapped in a musical ambience from operatic lyricism to contemporary electronic music, Starving Dingoes asks us to consider how we react to a dysfunctional element in a group - whether to repair it or to sacrifice it.
Starving Dingoes is co-produced by Les Théâtres de la Ville de Luxembourg (LU), Centre chorégraphique national de Rillieux-la-Pape, Direction Yuval PICK, dans le cadre du dispositif Accueil-Studio (FR). Commissioned by The Place, London (UK) Dance East, Ipswich (UK) Supported by FOCUNA (LU) TROIS C-L, Centre de Création Luxembourgeois (LU) La Maison de la Danse, Lyon (FR) (pour le prêt studio) Le CND, Lyon (FR) Compagnie La Baraka, Annonay (FR), DanceXchange, Birmingham (UK) Grant for the Arts, Arts Council England (UK), Fondation Indépendance (LU), and Kulturlx (LU).
