About

Now in its third year, Brighton Digital Festival’s in-house conference, the Messy Edge returns to ACCA for another feast of thinking on digital culture.

Inviting a diverse group of speakers offering different perspectives and starting from a place of ‘critical optimism’, the Messy Edge explores and challenges the dominant narratives that accrue around digital culture and technological development.

The separation between our digital and non-digital lives has all but disappeared our movements through space, our interactions with the world are significantly impacted and shaped by the digital world around us. Questions about who creates and runs that digital world are critical. From surveillance capitalism to algorithmic bias and more, join BDF to explore the Messy Edge.

Confirmed speakers include Dr Nishant Shah from ArtEZ University of the Arts, Catherine Allen of Limina, Maya Indira Ganesh, a feminist activist and doctoral candidate at Leuphana University, Brighton-based trans activist and writer KUCHENGA, Tonya Nelson, Director of Arts Technology and Innovation at Arts Council England, Emillie de Keulenaar, OILab collective and Rhiannon Armstrong, award-winning performance artist.
