Birmingham Ensemble for Electroacoustic Research: Dark Matter
This performance by the Birmingham Ensemble for Electroacoustic Research, created in collaboration with the art@CMS project at CERN in Switzerland, involves the real-time sonification of data streams from the Large Hadron Collider, the world’s largest and most complex particle accelerator. Experimental data containing clues towards possible 'new physics' becomes the raw material for improvised music and visualisations programmed by the ensemble with an aim to creating a result that while beautiful, is also both musically and scientifically meaningful.
In parallel with this event, the ensemble will offer a workshop on live coding and physics focussing on the use of science data in artistic projects. The physics elements will be lead by Dr. Konstantinos Nikolopoulos, an active researcher at CERN, and member of academic staff at the University of Birmingham’s School of Physics and Astronomy.
An accompanying workshop with the Birmingham Ensemble for Electoracoustic Research will also take place from 3pm-5pm.
Details to be announced in 2018. Free but ticketed.
