About

Tune-Yards’ magnum opus will arrive in January 2018 in the form of new album I can feel you creep into my private life.  The album tackles race, politics, intersectional feminism and environmental prophecies head on.  Despite exploring intense subject matter, the album is Tune-Yards’ most immediate and upbeat work yet - this is music to dance to.

Tune-Yards’ 2014 release Nikki Nack was one of the most well-received albums of the year.  New York Magazine called it “possibly the catchiest record of the year," the New Yorker praised its “joyful energy”.  Since the release of Nikki Nack, Tune-Yards has kept busy collaborating with legendary musicians David Byrne, Laurie Anderson and Yoko Ono, as well as writing the standout track, “Action,” from Mavis Staples’ 2016 album.

On I can feel you creep into my private life, Tune-Yards is officially a duo.  Merrill Garbus is joined by longtime collaborator Nate Brenner who produced and wrote the album together with Garbus.  Tune-Yards worked with mixer Mikaelin “Blue” BlueSpruce (Solange, Kendrick Lamar, and much of the album was recorded at Tiny Telephone Oakland, in Oakland, CA and mastered in Harlem, NY by Dave Kutch (Solange, Jay-Z, Chance the Rapper).

Support from Boogarins:

Boogarins’ Fernando “Dino” Almeida and Benke Ferraz began playing music together as teenagers in the central Brazilian city of Goiânia – creating psychedelic pop in their parents’ gardens, filtering their country’s rich musical history through a very modern lens.

the group’s home-recorded debut LP, 'As Plantas Que Curam' (2013), was released in 2013, and during 2014 Boogarins were circling the globe continually – headlining clubs and playing festivals from Austin to London, Paris to Madrid, New York to San Francisco, Santiago to Mexico City, playing alongside many great artists around the world.

The band’s second album, 'MANUAL' (2015) — was nominated for a Latin Grammy (Best Rock Album, Portuguese Language), and features a solidified four-piece with bassist Raphael Vaz and drummer Hans Castro.

2017 ramped up the group's recorded output with the release of a live album and the EP 'Lá Vem a Morte'.  They also toured extensively throughout the year, culminating in a breakthrough live appearance in their home country of Brazil at the world’s largest musical festival — Rock in Rio.

“Brazilian Boogarins subtly update the Tropicália template by taking in acid-fried indie rock on MANUAL.” - Mojo Magazine, February 2016
